Farm Landscape Inspires My Latest Painting

Inspiration for my latest painting  ‘Carnarvon Farm’ came from crouching  in a landscape of sweet potato with my oils taking a close look at sunlit young green leaves growing in rich red soil.   I approach the start of my paintings immersed in the landscape to capture colour and get a feel for how it all flows.   It’s an energy that I believe transfers into the artwork.

Being an arid outback area where it rarely rains, the horticulture industry in Carnarvon relies on water extracted from the underground aquifers to irrigate the crops.  It’s an inspiring example of man adapting to the environment and working with what is available in the landscape to produce high quality fresh food.

Carnarvon Farm oil on canvas 45 x 45 cm is my latest painting as Artist in Residence for the Gascoyne Food Council.

Working as Artist in Residence for the Gascoyne Food Council is an exhilarating experience.  Since starting this project in January I have been constantly challenged beyond my comfort zone as I explore a myriad of subjects around the theme of food; many of which I haven’t painted before.  This experience has opened a lid on fresh inspiration for my work. I feel fortunate to have on my doorstep an abundance of authentic content that totally inspires me. I look forward to seeing where this project takes me over the next few months as I create more work.
