This scene of Mount Augustus has been rolling around in my head since I traveled out there last year and I knew that I just had to paint this rock.  I like to mix my own colours rather than using a colour straight out of the tube and I found it really tricky to mix the colour for the rock.  After spending a morning mixing loads of different blues with cadmium medium red and deep red with a touch of white, I finally found a formula that produced the gorgeous violet tones that I wanted to express in the rock.

This is the fourth painting that I have made as Artist in Residence for the Gascoyne Food Council. While it sits in my studio drying I need to come up with a title.  Please let me know if you have any ideas.

The Great Outback Long Table Dinner will be held  at Mount Augustus as part of the Gascoyne Food Festival on 8 September 2018.  It’s a truly unique experience dining on great food from the Gascoyne under a big outback night sky with the silhouette of the rock. One of those I need to pinch myself moments! For more information contact the Mount Augustus Tourist Park http://www.mtaugustustouristpark.com/

New paintings fresh from the easel will be uploaded to my website art gallery original artworks page and will be available for purchase.
