Living in the Gascoyne region in the remote north of Western Australia I admire growers who work with nature in a somewhat harsh environment to produce beautiful food.  As an artist I am inspired to paint the food and the landscapes of this story.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to do this as Artist in Residence for the Gascoyne Food Council.

Over the coming months  I will be sharing what I’m working on behind the scenes from my studio and out in the field.  It will be a bit like revealing my artist diary with stories and photos of food and landscapes from across the region that inspire my art and sneak peaks of paintings as they are being made.  While I have a work plan in mind the exciting thing about life is the unexpected twists and turns and no doubt there will be a few of those as I explore pastoral stations, farms and fishing locations across the region.

Featured below are my paintings ‘Mt Augustus’ inspired the beauty of its landscape as you gaze up from the camp, and ‘River Flowing’ inspired by the Gascoyne River which is the lifeblood for growers in our region.  I painted these artworks as Artist in Residence for the Gascoyne Food Council.

New paintings fresh from the easel will be uploaded to the original artworks art gallery page of my website at www.suehelmot.com.au All artworks will be available for purchase.
