“From the source a landscape of food starts in a parched landscape as we wait for the rain to arrive. We hope that it will come but don’t know when. It does eventually fall in the remote upper catchment areas including Mt Augustus. As the water is shed it begins to flow downstream into the Gascoyne River and transforms the rangelands that are grazed by livestock. When it reaches Carnarvon it replenishes the aquifers where it is converted into fruit and vegetables on the Gascoyne Delta. The river then discharges into Shark Bay triggering the spawning of seafood. I am inspired to capture this story through my work as Artist in Residence for the Gascoyne Food Council”. Sue Helmot
